ABOUT ABOUT

The Confederation Club Proudly Welcomes Our February 16, 2017 Guest Speaker:

Dr. Alistair Edgar, Executive Director Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS)

"Syria, Critical Obstacles to Peace, and Prospects for ending the war(s)"

The conflict continues to lurch in different directions. Does the fall of the rebel held part of Aleppo suggest that an end of conflict is near or does it simply mean that the various factions will realign with enemies becoming allies and allies becoming enemies in a never-ending conflict?

Dr. Edgar is well positioned to explore these questions.  In addition to his position with ACUNS, Dr. Edgar is an Advisory Board member of the Laurier Centre for Military, Strategic and Disarmament studies and Associate Professor of Political Studies at WLU.  In support of his current research into issues of transitional justice in war-to-peace transitions and post-conflict peace building, he has done extensive fieldwork in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Kosovo and northern Uganda.

Dr. Edgar holds degrees from Cambridge, UBC and Queens, and has completed studies at Harvard and Moscow State University.
